Artificial setts are constructed to provide alternative living accommodation for badgers where the natural sett has to be destroyed, usually for building and development projects. In most cases a significant area of the badgers’ territory is also compromised by the development. Many criteria must be considered with respect to the location of an artificial sett, and, providing they are well designed and constructed, they are readily taken to by badgers.
Wildlifeco have designed and built artificial setts for housing and new road developments throughout the UK. Our company offer a complete service tailored to the needs of our clients, beginning with a free initial survey. We determine the licencing requirements and methodology, the location for siting the proposed artificial sett, the size and type of sett required, timescale and project costings.
A detailed drawing is prepared and photographs are taken to accompany the licence application to Natural England. Following approval, all setts are then constructed in our workshops before being transported to the site. Excavation of the area, sett assembly and reprofiling of the ground usually takes approximately a week to complete.
